Medical Receptionist
The main responsibilities of the medical receptionist will be to BEC patients by greeting and helping them, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records and accounts.
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
- Schedules appointments in person or by telephone.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying the provider of patient’s arrival
- Maintains a welcoming environment for patients as they enter the facility and during their wait time, while also answering patients’ questions when needed.
- Verifies insurance, obtains prior authorization and precertification prior to patient visit.
- Works within EMR to maintain and update patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level.
- Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining the confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures.

Ophthalmology Technician Description
Beaufort Eye Center has an immediate opening for a full-time ophthalmic tech. We are looking for some experience in the medical field (can be full-time, part-time, or through internships) in roles such as a medical technician or medical assistant. BEC is a busy private practice with three practicing surgeons. We are looking for team players who are flexible, hardworking, and willing to learn as we are dedicated to training and growing our staff within the practice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Record patient medical/family histories including current and past personal ocular history. Test and record the patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
- Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test), including applanation.
- Performs ancillary tests such as lensometry, corneal topography, A scans, B scans, keratometry, manual refractions, fundus photography, slit lamp photography and visual fields, (including central and peripheral vision).
- Scribe for the physician when applicable.
- Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
- Collect and process specimens for appropriate laboratory testing. Prepares and stocks exam rooms; assists with exams.
- Triage emergency cases appropriately into physicians’ schedule, maintains patient flow
- Perform first level maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and notifies office manager of any equipment malfunctions.
